Happy Sam Johnson Day

the following was just posted to another list:
>I just blogged about this,
>but wanted to share a reasonably cool bit of bookish lore with this overly
>receptive audience:
>
>On May 16th, 1763, Samuel Johnson and James Boswell first met. To
>commemorate this momentous event, on this very day in 1791 Boswell
>published his Life of Johnson. Noteworthy trivia, indeed.
>
>On the "the universe can be entertaining at times" front, I had a client
>hand me a lovely copy of the 1793 Second and Augmented Edition of
>Life of Johnson just yesterday. Serendipity is fun (the bookshop, too).

To which my response was:

Thanks for that.
And speaking of serendipity, without having known the above, I just this
afternoon published an article I've been working on for the past 2 days
about Johnson's publisher, Robert Dodsley here.

Isn't serendipity a wonderful thing.

Jeremy B. Dibbell has also posted an interesting and related blog piece on the subject which you can get to here.
