The Book as a Werther's Original

I've always loved old books. Yes, even as a kid. They held mystery and wonder. Who had held it all those years before? Who had read and loved the story? But there was more than that.

There was the book to the ten year old me, warm, mellow, sweet in its aroma. Often, if not always, I would read however much I could before I grew tired, and then I would lay the book, open to whatever page I was on, over my face and I would breath in its wonderful, lovely, sweetness and drift off happily to sleep.

Now in my 60th year, I find the same pleasure in the fragrance of old books. Thinking about that today, I realised the closest things to that perfume, were the Welch's Sugar Daddys of my youth and the Werthers Originals of today. The candies have the same warm, mellow, sweet taste that best resembles the aroma of an old book.

As Homer might say, "Mmmmmmmmm! Olllllld Booooooks".

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
